Roadshow 2019 In Review

Join Xero’s Trent Innes as he reveals all that we’ve learned throughout this period – from uncovering the trends driving the state of small business to building the future-ready practices we need today. In November, 2016 we hit the road with our vision of the future for accountants and bookkeepers. Our tour took us through London, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh and Bristol. We met up with over 1,200 local partners to share our State of Accountsresearch findings, trend analysis and product updates. “As accountants we are a conservative breed and are reluctant to change things or do things differently,” said Prinsloo.

Managing director Gary Turner said technology was changing perceptions about accounting and that the march of cloud accounting was showing no signs of slowing up. Turner revealed some alarming results from the company’s 2016 ‘State of Accounts’ research, chief among those that more than half (59%) of 1,000 small businesses surveyed did not think they will need an accountant in 10 years’ time. Across the month, we took 13 coffee bars to 11 events, with 19 baristas serving our signature blend. Drinks were served on arrival and in break times, meaning extremely busy service peaks for our baristas. Contrary to the frequent scare stories about the end of the profession Turner said the role of the accountant was changing, and small businesses will actually need accountants more than ever. Given the backdrop of MTD, the big theme of the practice-focussed roadshow was digitisation, its impact on the profession and the opportunity it provides accountants.
